How to disable Write Protection in 4GB Cruzer Edge

I am very much frustrated with the write protection option that is enabled in this device. Recently I purchased SanDisk Cruzer Edge 4GB USB, used it only ones and noticed that I am unable rename any of the file, folder or document, also I am unable to delete any stuffs inside it. Initially I was very much confused with this behavior but then I understood that this might be due to the write protection feature.
However now I have decided to get rid of this write protection but unfortunately unable to do so. Currently I am running windows 7 onto my machine; please help me out with a proper solution in order to get rid of it.

I donít think the exact problem is with the Share with option, as I have multiple USB drives present with me and almost all of them works fine with the same machine except for this Cruzer Edge drive. In fact I also have 4 same Cruzer Edge USB drive of the same model with me; and in that 3 of them are working well and fine only.

I am not sure with the exact solution but I guess changing Share with option of your windows 7 system might help you out. Make sure that you have not selected your Share With option to nobody.

If your USB drive is Write protected you can simply follow the following steps:
    • Start Menu
    • Run, Type regedit
    • Over there navigate: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\StorageDevicePolicies
    • Double click on the StorageDevicePolicy
    • You will get WriteProtect option > set the value to 0 in the value Data Box
    • Click OK, Exit the registry
    • Reboot your system and now connect your USB drive, thatís it

    Hope this solution helps you

I have tried to change the Share with option but however I got confused with selecting the correct option. On my windows 7 system I can see the following Share with option:
    • Nobody
    • Homegroup (Read)
    • Homegroup (Read/Write)

Amongst the three when I entered over here, nobody was selected. Now I have selected Homegroup (Read/Write) option randomly without any knowledge whether it will help me or not. Just wanted to ask which option I was actually supposed to choose. If not Homegroup (Read/Write) then should I choose the only remaining option?

If the registry key StorageDevicePolicies is not existing in the given path i.e. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\StorageDevicePolicies, you need to however create it by your own. For this you need to download a batch file called add.bat. once you download that batch file you have to just double click on the downloaded file, the missing registry key will be automatically be added to the registry. For the desired batch file Click HERE.

Every time I tried to format my SanDisk Cruzer Blade USB drive I ended up having a Write protection error. From past 2 days I am trying to format the pendrive but donít know for what reason its not allowing me to do so, its just shows me the write protection error. I am allowed to delete individual folders or files by selecting them and deleting but when I try to format the USB by selecting the format option it give the same error message saying that ďthis device is write protected and it cannot be formattedĒ.

Please either let me know how I independent my usb drive from this write protection error or just let know some alternate method of formatting the drive.

if you still face the issue you can try out the following almost similar steps:
    • Go to Start
    • Run
    • Type cmd and press enter
    • In the command prompt type the following command: CHKDSK X: /F

Make sure that you replace the letter X with the Drive name or letter of your USB drive that is connected to the system. Once you do this please let me know the result.

Make sure that you first take the back up of all your important data.
    • Download Apacer Formatting Utility from web
    • Unzip the downloaded utility to a folder on your hard disk
    • Make sure that you donít try to save the utility on your pen drive
    • Keep your USB drive plugged in
    • Now double click on the Start.bat file in the folder
    • You USB drive will now start formatting

Wait till the pen drive completes formatting, once done remove it and again insert it.
